Summary:
Head Coaches have a unique role in the YP department that engages with students as a coach, but also has administrative and management duties. The Head Coach of Foundational Programs at the Alaska Rock Gym directly oversees the 8/9-Week Introductory after school and homeschool classes, seasonal camps, and scheduling of youth private lessons. An overarching goal of this position is to foster an encouraging and welcoming environment to introduce new students to our youth programs and climbing. The Head Coach of Foundational Programs reports to and is directly supervised by the Director (DYP) and Assistant Director of Youth Programs (ADYP). They will assist the Director, Assistant Director, and Head Coaches with the coordination and management of their program missions, development and implementation of curriculums, staffing, scheduling and training, as well as coordinating youth private lessons. This position requires a minimum of 30 to 35 hours per week.
Essential Duties:
The Head Coach of Foundational Programs is responsible for direct supervision of the after school and homeschool introductory courses as well as the seasonal camps offered throughout the year. For each of these programs the Head Coach shall:
● Assist the DYP and ADYP with job candidate screening and interviews for YP coaches.
● Coordinate training and refresher curriculums for all new and returning employees with the goal of providing necessary skills and knowledge so they may coach, support, and mentor students effectively.
● Make sure all staff arrive on time, dressed appropriately, and ready to engage with the students and the curriculum for the day.
● Report undesirable behavior of staff members to the DYP and/or ADYP.
● Monitor the progress of all students in Foundational classes, keep track of skills cards, and make recommendations for students to retake the introductory course to remediate skills or move to a more intense, monthly program.
● Keep attendance check-ins up to date in Rock Gym Pro, and provide contextual assistance to the accounting department when invoicing program fees.
● Assist in working the schedule to cover gaps in staffing as needed, this may include coaching other programs.
● Communicate with parents, coaches, ADYP, and DYP to create plans of care for students who exhibit concerning behaviors in class to be able to manage behavior and give them enough support so as to allow them to continue in class.
● Update curriculum as needed.
● Respond to parent inquiries concerning registration, payments, attendance, and any other issues that arise.
● Assist in biannual employee reviews.
Pay and Benefits:
Full time, hourly specialty employee
