Summary:

Head Coaches have a unique role in the YP department that engages with students as a coach, but also has administrative and management duties. The Head Coach of Elementary Age Rec Teams will oversee both El-Rec (grades 3 – 5) and T-Rec (Grades K – 2) teams during the after school time including the homeschool time. The Elementary age Rec Teams at the Alaska Rock Gym are where young climbers learn the basic and intermediate skills of the sport. After going through our new Foundations Class the Recreational Teams will further progress young climbers abilities so they become life long climbers. The primary objective of this role is to foster a welcoming learning environment where climbers can develop climbing technique as well as social/emotional skills. The Head Coach of Foundational Programs reports to and is directly supervised by the Director (DYP) and Assistant Director of Youth Programs (ADYP). The Head Coach will be responsible for developing curriculum and tracking the progress of both teams. Working with their coaches, they will ensure each practice is tailored to the needs of each climber. In addition to coaching and curriculum planning, the Head Coach will be responsible for managing the rosters and waitlists for both teams in addition to bringing in new climbers from our Foundations Class. When the Rec Teams are not practicing the Head Coach will have the opportunity to coach other teams in ARG’s Youth Programs including Foundations and Training Team.

Essential Duties:

● Manage rosters, waitlists, and ensure payments are being processed properly.

● Keep attendance check-ins up to date in Rock Gym Pro, and provide contextual assistance to the accounting department when invoicing program fees.

● Create a differentiated curriculum to meet each class’s needs.

● Make sure all staff arrive on time, dressed appropriately, and ready to engage with the students and the curriculum for the day.

● Report undesirable behavior of staff members to the DYP and/or ADYP.

● Meet with the head coaches once a week to go over space usage and hear other concerns.

● Coordinate training and refresher curriculums for all new and returning employees with the goal of providing necessary skills and knowledge so they may coach, support, and mentor students effectively.

● Coach foundations classes to see who is coming up and make sure they are ready for Rec Team.

● Communicate with Parents via Remind about upcoming events and changes to the schedule.

● Respond to parent inquiries concerning registration, payments, attendance, and any other issues that arise.

● Assist in biannual employee reviews.

 

Pay and Benefits:

Full time, hourly specialty employee

Hourly wage: $22-25

2 weeks annual PTO
